One of the best parts about shooting a fine art underwater portrait is editing the images. Underwater shoots always have that element of the unknown. You are never really sure what you have until you see it on the screen. It’s always an exciting moment when you see your vision start to come to life. So much work goes into the planning and execution and I genuinely get excited to see the images every time.
This is an image from one of my favorite shoots. I love the colour and the simplicity, not to mention my client in this shoot is a beautiful soul and fantatstic to work with.
An underwater portait is a fantastic experience. We all move so differently underwater. We don’t have the restrictions of gravity, we can be gracefull and acrobatic, we can float and dive. It is a fun experience to be in a fantasy world just below the surface.
Part of job is to put my clients at ease, we don’t have to be in deep water to get a fantastic shot. Not all my clients are confident swimmers, so it is always safety first. We can capture amazing shots in 3ft of water. Being relaxed is the first step to creating a beautiful image. Some clients start off a little apprehensive, but within a few minutes most forget the camera is there and their inner mermaid appears. That is when the magic happens and the fun begins. When clients inhabitions float away and they start to feel that they belong in the water and are beautiful in their surroundings.
